Considering baptism?

We are excited that you are interested in baptism. We believe that baptism is an important step of obedience for every person who has accepted Christ as his or her Saviour.

This page has been designed to explain baptism and the necessary steps to be baptised at an upcoming service. If you still have questions, please e-mail office@pemburybaptistchurch.org and one of our leaders will get in touch with you.

We consider it a privilege to walk with you as you take this next step on your spiritual journey.

Who Should Be Baptised?
Christians believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs only when a person places his or her faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for his or her sin.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, then you are ready to be baptised. Just like a bride and groom show others their love for one another by wearing wedding bands, your baptism is your opportunity to show others that you have accepted Christ and are now walking with Him.

What Baptism Symbolises
Baptism is a way of showing others that you have entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ. It symbolises what took place in your heart at the time of salvation:

  • Accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
  • Shared in His death and resurrection, illustrated by going under the water (dead to your old life), then rising again (new life).
  • Were symbolically washed clean and sins were forgiven by His death on the cross.

Because Jesus instructed us to be baptised, baptism is an act of obedience. While it is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God. We immerse at PBC because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that for us as the way to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.

Infant Christening
Some denominations choose to christen infants. While we recognise the right of other churches to practice infant christening, we understand Scripture to teach that only professing believers qualify for baptism. Baptism does not make you a believer, rather it shows that you already believe.

Please e-mail office@pemburybaptistchurch.org to register your interest. Those who want to be baptised meet for a conversation with a Pastor or Elder and gather with others who want to be baptised for a short course to explore together the basics of what baptism means.

News & Announcements

The Alpha Course - Invitation Supper Saturday 23rd September

PBC is running the Alpha Course this autumn. The Alpha introductory supper is being held on Saturday 23rd September starting at 7.30pm.  There's a meal for you to enjoy and an introduction to the Alpha Course.  The Alpha Course itself takes place over 10 Thursdays from 28th September starting at 7pm, including a meal.  There is a Day Away on Saturday 11th November.  More information will be available at the introductory supper.  Do book in now, bring your friends, for the Supper Night through the Church Office on 01892 825590 or office@pemburybaptistchurch.org.


Women2Women Italian Meal - Wednesday 13th September

Ladies, Women2Women invite you to an Italian meal on Wednesday 13th September at 7.30pm.  We are very pleased to have Hennie Nijman sharing something of her inspiring story on the night.  Tickets are £10 per person.  For more information and tickets, please contact Jennifer on jfroberts1958@gmail.com or 07830367382.  Alternatively speak to the Church Office on 01892 825590.


Kingdom Cafe - monthly every 3rd Saturday

The Kingdom Cafe will be open every third Saturday of the month throughout the year between 11am and 3pm.  Cake, coffee and conversation are free.  There are books available to borrow and browse.  Children have their own table for colouring. Do come along, bring a friend or come alone, be quiet or enjoy the company - just relax!


PBC Prayer Meeting - 1st Tuesday of the Month

PBC's Church Prayer Meetings in 2017 will be held on the first Tuesday of every month in the Church Foyer, starting at 8pm.  Do come along and worship our living God through prayer and word. For more information on prayer at PBC, click on the heading, then on 'here'.


PBC Family Barbecue - Sunday 25th June at the Hills

On Sunday 25th June, after the monthly family morning service, everyone is invited to the Hills' home in Henwood Green Road for a Family BBQ! It's a time to relax together and enjoy some family fun time! Please sign up if you would like to come along and bring friends and family.  More details will follow but in the meantime, get the date in your diary, sign up and ask friends and family.
